(1) Japanese-English Interpretation for craft workshops during the program.  (2-3 hour sessions on different days)

A few workshops will be conducted in Japanese that require interpretation.  (Most workshops are in English). 

When English-speaking craft workshop is in session, it will be flex-time for you to take breaks or do your own work, be within reach by phone in case emergency assistance may be needed.

 

(2) Ensure smooth operation of each day.

Be knowledgeable of the program itinerary and ensure smooth transitions of daily activities. I.e. Ensure breakfast or lunch delivery on time.  Confirm daily reservations as needed. Bus or taxi reservation arrive on schedule. Meeting rooms and basic equipment is set up and ready for use (e.g. white boards, projector etc..) Organize or replenish coffee/snack table as needed.  Ensure program activities stay punctual, run smoothly, and the group moves forward according to schedule.  

 

(3) Be the “go-to person” for foreigner participants

Assist and answer inquires as needed. Some participants may be 1st time visitors of Japan and are unfamiliar with Japanese customs & etiquette.  E.g. basic rules about using Japan facilities, Yamato luggage shipping, highway bus ticket reservation etc… 

 

(4) Videos/photo documentation during activities when not interpreting. Assist to capture a few activity moments (photos/videos) when you have free time.  You won't be expected to be a professional-level photographer. 

 

(5) (As needed) Report any problem, and review next day’s readiness and reservation confirmations. 

 

(6) Be aware and ready to assist when unexpected incident happens (e.g. transportation arriving late, participants is lost in the town, quick run to local shops for supplies or food)

 

(7) You may be invited to attend (audit) some pre-travel meetings / conference calls, just to get you on board with the project, meet the artisans and understand the itinerary and coordination details. Will also be good opportunity to learn some of the workshop content and prepare notes for interpretation. 

 

(8) Program location is in rural town with little options for transportation. Driving during the program is not required, but if you have a driver’s license, you can use the rental car to run to convenient stores or when unexpected pick-up is needed.  Alternative means of transportation for such would be calling and waiting for local taxi.

 

(9) You are expected to arrive 1 or 2 day before the program to help set up. (Oct 20th & 21st)
